Sports are a significant aspect of culture, and the popularity of different sports around the world indicates the diversity of the cultures.

  1. Soccer is the number one sport in the world according, to both and It is the most televised sport around the world, watched by over 3.5  billion people. It is played universally around the world in many different countries across Europe, Africa, Asia, and America.
  2. Cricket is ranked second in the world and is viewed by 2.5 billion people. It is most commonly played in Australia, India, Pakistan, and British Isles.
  3. Field Hockey is ranked third in the world and is watched by approximately 2 billion people. It is mostly played by countries such as: Canada, the United States, Pakistan, and Eastern Europe.
  4. Tennis is ranked number four in the world and is watched by over one billion people. It is played all over the world but is mostly played in the United States, Australia, France, New Zealand, Switzerland, and The United Kingdom.
  5. Volleyball is numbered the  fifth sport in the world and is viewed by around 900 million people. It is most popular in places such as: Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.
  6. Table Tennis is ranked number six in the world. Between 850 and 900 million people watch this sport per year, and  the top three leaders are China, South Korea, and Sweden.
  7. Number seven on the list is baseball. Baseball is viewed by over 500 million people per year. It is played mostly in the United States, the Dominican Republic, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
  8. Sitting at number eight on the list is golf. Golf has between 390 and 450 million fans worldwide. It is played mainly the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada.
  9. At number nine is rugby. Rugby has between 390 and 410 million fans and is played in a variety of countries some of which include England, South Africa, France, and Ireland.
  10. Rounding out the top 10 is American football. American football has around 390 million fans and is played mostly in The United States of America, hence the name “American football.”
