Every year, Statesboro High sponsors a variety show to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, this year Broadway in the ‘Boro will be held on September 19 in the SHS auditorium.
Broadway in the ‘Boro will showcase a few of the SHS fine arts classes. Groups participating include Mrs. Muldrew’s chorus and musical theatre classes and Mr. Frazier’s drama classes. The students will sing, dance, and act all for their cause, LLS. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students and children 12 and under.
On the 19, be sure to be at SHS just before 6:30. Dessert will be served at 6:30, and after 30 minutes, the show will begin.
Both LLS and the SHS Fine Arts department will receive profit from the fundraiser. Before the show, a table will be set up for donations. Those who want to contribute can go before 7:00 to give money to LLS. The first $1,000 made through admissions costs goes to LLS, and whatever remains is split between chorus and drama.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society focuses on just those two cancers, whereas the American Cancer Society focuses on many cancers, and therefore cannot support both Leukemia and Lymphoma as much as needed.
To get more information about the show, students can contact Muldrew or Frazier. To find out more about the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (or LLS), visit their website, lls.org.
“There are a great many students in this school who are talented, so this is a great showcase for their work. That’s one reason! It’s also for a worthy cause. Leukemia and Lymphoma are cancers that affect many people,” Frazier said.
